Only eight more days.
God willing, a week from today, at this time I will be arriving into Amarillo, in the company of my friends Don Taylor and Mel Maresh. In the mean time, convergences are wrecking havoc with my nerves.
Our house closing will not happen on Monday as expected. It will, hopefully, happen by Wednesday. A bit close for comfort. The bank needs to reprocess some papers for the buyers, and with banking hours, this has now been pushed out a day or two more. To top this off, I noticed some unusual behavior on the clutch hydraulics of the motorcycle on my way home last night. None of the local dealers can look at it until Wednesday. Now that is really freaky. But there is hope. A dude from the Two Wheeled Texans bulletin boards gave me the number to a local guy who is a BMW master mechanic. I called him. Left a message, and had a call back within 15 minutes. We are all set up for him to look at the bike on Monday. Wow. God’s provision indeed. In the mean time, I do not think I have butterflies in my stomach. Feels more like a ball of maggots.
Along this drama, we have to reschedule utilities moves, alarm service transfers, unpack the stuff at the new [rental] property, …
But, in news from the battle on modern day slavery front, I am heartened by the report that Washington State passed a slew of laws aimed at curbing sex and human trafficking in that state. This includes stiff penalties for johns, and for traffickers, as well as protection for victims, including cleaning of criminal records for women who can show they have been trafficked. This last element is a very difficult one but at least something is in place. What was put on hold is the system of laws that the centerpiece of the trafficking reform, which makes it illegal to advertise sex services involving a minor, due to a challenge by Backpage.com since it eats into their lucrative line of escort and sexual services add.
