The Train

I believe this was a Monday.  We took an early train to Ferrara, where we rented bicycles and explored the city and its wall.

Parma Wall

This was quite the day.  A whirl wind trip through Parma, guided by Adelina, that showed us the magnificence of churches, museums, amazing theaters, and was at the same time, an introduction to Italian gastronomy.  Food highlight of the day?  Ground horse meat; raw.

Milano Train Station

We arrived in Milan on March 26, having departed Houston on the 25th.  Here we took the train to Parma, where we met Adelina, and Leticia, her host-mother.  They took us to Collechio that evening, where we crashed out.

Purple Ice

This gallery is the result of a series of experimental photos taken one night last week as part of our Artist Date.  It was inspired by a candle light dinner.

El Anatsui

These pictures were taken at Rice University, during my third visit to the Wall installation @ the Gallery.

The pictures were taken after a visit with a only a paper pad and pencil.  The following stream of consciousness  was elicited by the installation:

• Birds and angels on the wall
• Cross
• Spikes
• Fluid drip and creep of the wall
• Two sides of the wall
• Walls rising
• Crawling under
• People on the other side
• Freedom beyond
• Broken sides
• Unique blocks
• Voices on the other side
• Strangers
• Refuse piled up
• Waves crashing against
• Hanging
• Can’t touch it
• Spaces and freedom defined
• Police to keep you out
• Police to keep you in
• Vines growing
• Sunlight barrier
• Built by people
• Earthquakes
• Weather
• War

Finally, this is a quote by the artist:

“Beauty does not belong to the eye”

This was an experiment in time lapse photography at the Wall installation (El Anatsui) at the Rice Gallery.
